United Way of the Mohawk Valley administers the Herkimer County Emergency Food and Shelter (EFS) Program. Funding through this program becomes available in phased time periods as announced by United Way Worldwide.
Selection Process
The Herkimer County Local EFS Board, made up of representatives from Herkimer County’s local agencies, determines how the funds awarded to Herkimer County are to be distributed among the Emergency Food and Shelter Programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Herkimer County EFS Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:
Be a non-profit or governmental agency in Herkimer County with FEIN registration
Be eligible to receive federal funds
Practice nondiscrimination
Have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit
Have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food, and/or shelter program
Have a voluntary board, if you’re a private voluntary organization
Have or applied for a DUNS number
Please keep in mind that Phase 41 started on October 1, 2022 and we recommend gathering all invoices to be submitted for reimbursement as soon as possible. This award is given in two payments, and the second submission for reimbursement cannot occur until the first submission is processed. Having these documents ready for submission in case your agency is awarded EFSP will be beneficial to your agency. Phase 41 ends on December 31, 2024. RFP Submission deadline is 5/14/2024.
